Based in Cambridge, Cyrus is a British company who design and manufacture hi-fi equipment for the global market. The Cyrus brand was first started as an offshoot of Mission Loudspeakers developing amplifiers to compliment Mission’s loudspeaker ranges. Cyrus as a company grew over time, but it was not until 2004 when it was subject to a management buy out, led by Peter Bartlett, that it developed with the direction and focus of today.

Cyrus over the last two years has completely overhauled their product range, receiving critical acclaim for each product segment. Not resting on their laurels, they are continually refining each model.

CD Players
When Cyrus took the redesign their CD player range, unlike almost every other company they decided to start at the source, the CD mechanism itself. There are in fact very few CD mechanisms on the market and Cyrus did not wish to be limited by standard designs.

In redesigning the mechanism from the ground up Cyrus has managed to significantly reduce the CD read error rate (by up to 20%), which greatly increases the amount of information retrieved from disc.

Many technologies once reserved for the top of the range XT range, have been trickled down to the current 6SE and 8SE models. This has resulted in a greatly improved sound at each price point. Indeed Cyrus have been receiving many awards for their entire range: see What HiFi, HiFi Review and HiFi Plus. In fact What HiFi gave awards to every level of CD player in 2009 – something unheard of in previous years.

CD 6 SE
Despite being the most affordable CD player from Cyrus, this is by no means a budget player. It uses the same mechanism as the rest of the SE range, and much of the circuitry used in the CD8SE, including the latest power supply technology. The product is a testament to Cyrus’s ability to produce fantastic sounding components at every level. There is little question among many that this is one of the best value CD players ever produced.

CD 8 SE
The CD8 SE builds upon the CD6 SE by featuring custom designed twin transformers and a specially developed DAC. Most commonly used with the Cyrus PSX-R (regulated power supply), the CD8SE adds extra scale and poise to music.

CD XT SE +
The CD XT SE + is the top of the range CD transport and is designed to be partnered with the DAC X+ or DAC XP+. Cyrus have found the best performance is derived from separating the two parts of the process. (Both these units benefit greatly from being used with the PSX-R power supply). The player incorporates all the leading edge technology from Cyrus’s labs and is capable of communicating levels of information only previously seen at a higher price point. To quote Hi-Fi Choice 5 star Jan 2010 review:

“SE+ and PSX-R bring CDXT into the front league. There aren’t many transports at this price and we would be surprised if this didn’t knock some more exotic examples for six”

Integrated Amplifiers
The most recent product refresh at Cyrus has been their amplifiers. When considering a Cyrus amplifier, the first step would be an integrated amplifier, available in four variants: the 6XP, 8XP, 8XPd and 8XPd QX. Cyrus engineers developed a whole new platform for their integrated amplifiers, with subtle differences depending on your needs. Features which are shared across the range are a Pre Amplifier, which is based on the X Series DAC XP model, large LCD displays and Cyrus’s famed upgrade path.

6XP
The starter model in the range is the 6XP, based on similar technology to the 8XPd but without the digital inputs and PSX-R port. Six analogue inputs with 40 watts per channel and a second zone output for powering speakers in a second room are some of the features which complete this model.

8XP
The 8XP increases the power over the 6XP, producing a very efficient 70 watts per channel. It is based on the DAC XP+ platform and features a twin transformer power supply that enables the control system and audio to be powered separately. The PSX-R power supply is optional with this model, and can be easily added in by the consumer.

8XP d
The 8XPd is where the integrated amplifiers take a leap in functionality. Adding five digital inputs to the existing six analogue inputs. Of particular note is the USB input for playback of music stored on a computer. This function really does give your digital music a lift, never thought possible before. The reason for this? Cyrus’s high specification on board DAC.

8XPd QX
For customers who want the very best integrated amplifier, the 8XPd QX is the one. Cyrus have taken their immensely talented 8XPd and upgraded the DAC even further, providing 192kHz up sampling across all digital inputs. As always, the XP amplifiers can be factory upgraded to this highest level at a future date.

Cyrus Pre / Power Amplifier Combinations
For customers wanting to take their hifi to the next level, Cyrus produce a range of Pre Amplifiers and Power Amplifiers. When combined they produce stunning results.

Cyrus produce three Pre Amplifiers, the Pre XP d, Pre XP d QX, and DAC XP+. All Pre Amplifiers are based on the X Series XP architecture and incorporate both analogue and digital inputs, including USB input function for direct playback of music stored on your computer.

Pre XP d
As well as the above features, the Pre XP d can also be upgraded further by including a PSX-R regulated power supply.

Pre XP d QX
Adding to the Pre XP d this model includes the improved QX DAC card, again with the option to upgrade using the PSX-R power supply.

DAC XP +
The DAC XP + is flagship Pre Amplifier and DAC from Cyrus. Utilising Cyrus’s full dual mono balanced design, the DAC XP + is designed set up to be used in conjunction with Mono Amplifiers and PSX-R’s for the ultimate system.

Power Amplifiers
Cyrus produce a range of four power amplifiers, for each level of system. The 6 Power, 8 Power, Mono X and X Power. They have designed their power amplifiers to be versatile: equally confident when used in a hi fi setup or when increasing the sound quality of a multi room system.

6 Power
The introduction power amplifier in the Cyrus range and based on the architecture of the 8vs2 integrated amplifier. It can be run in stereo or as a mono amplifier. The 6 Power can easily be factory upgraded as and when you upgrade your system

8 Power
The 8 Power increases the power output and as a result has a more effortless and controlled sound. It can be easily upgraded by purchasing a PSX-R power supply, or by a factory upgrade to an X Power. The 8 Power has become a very popular option for customers looking to increase the performance from their Sonos multi room system.

X Power
The X Power is the top of the line stereo power amplifier produced by Cyrus. When looking for a stereo power amplifier to compliment your pre amplifier, the X Power is a natural choice.

Mono X
When striving for the pinnacle in sound reproduction, it is generally considered best to split each component into their respective parts, with mono power amplifiers powering each speaker, or indeed each separate driver. The Mono X provides all the power required, topping out at 1500 watts. We have a DAC XP+ with four Mono X running in the shop at all times.
